Taylor passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on July 6, 2008. Mr. Taylor was born to Jake and Georgie Taylor on Oct. 10, 1917, in St. Augustine. He married the love of his life, Annie Jewel Lord, on Aug. 5, 1937. Annie passed away March 15, 2007. Their family is blessed to know that Neco and Annie will be together for Annie's birthday and their 71st wedding anniversary in heaven. He is survived by two daughters, Adeline Hurd and her husband, Don, who was like a son to Neco, and Linda (Jess) Latuch, both of St. Augustine; one sister, Valerie Roberts, of St. Augustine; eight grandchildren, Gary Hurd, Debbie Sconyers, Donna LaFemina, Dana Boston, Brett Taylor, Tiffany Taylor, Christy Stockel and Ted McCormick Jr.; and 13 great-grandchildren. She studied food management service training at various colleges including Miami-Dade Jr. College, Florida State University, and Georgia Southwestern in Americus, Ga. She retired from Tri-County High School in Buena Vista, Ga. She was of the Presbyterian faith. David moved to this area 43 years ago from West Frankfort, Ill. David lived in Gainesville and Crescent Beach for most of those 43 years. He was the founder of David Tomlinson Wholesale and co-founder of Tomlinson Motor Company. Mr. Tomlinson enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family, fishing, riding his bike and just enjoying life. He is preceded in death by Buster and Pete. He is survived by his son, J.D. Mr. Tout faithfully served his country proudly in the U.S. Army, having served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Millie was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa. She raised her family there, residing in Philadelphia until moving to St. Augustine in January 2003. "Chiefy," her widely know nickname, was a homemaker. She was of the Catholic faith. Millie loved roller skating and was a great and competitive player of all games. Much beloved by her family, she was the best and most loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to all. Her sense of humor was wonderful, and Millie cherished her friends in Philadelphia and her friends and the staff at The Allegro. We know her loving, beautiful spirit will be with us always. "Granny was a ray of light on a cloudy day, She was a drop of joy that found her way into all of our hearts that will forever stay." A celebration of her life will be announced at a future date. Francis P. "Frank" Untener, 76, died on Feb. 27, 2008, at Flagler Hospital. He was a native and longtime resident of Yonkers, N.Y., and had resided in St. Augustine since 1996. Frank served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a diesel mechanic. After his discharge from the military he continued to work as a diesel mechanic as a member of Local 137 Operating Engineers Union in Elmsford, N.Y. He worked in construction for many years, mostly in Westchester County, N.Y. He was a volunteer fireman for the Yulan, N.Y. Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Yulan Rod & Gun Club. He was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, March 3, at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, with Father Seamus O'Flynn and Father Terrence Morgan officiating. Upchurch was born on Sept. 25, 1925, at old Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine. He was the son of Frank D. Upchurch Sr. and Esther Davis Upchurch, both of whom preceded him in death. He attended Fullerwood Elementary School and was graduated from The Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tenn. Later in life he was honored to be a member of the Distinguished Alumni Society of Webb School. After graduation he immediately enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was commissioned as a pilot, although World War II ended before he was called upon to fly in combat. He remained a lifelong pilot and in 2002 was also licensed as a helicopter pilot. He was graduated from the University of Florida with degrees in business administration and law. In 1987 he was designated by the University as a Distinguished Alumnus. He served on the University of Florida Foundation and remained a loyal Gator football fan throughout his life. In 1951, he entered the private practice of law in St. Augustine with his father and Howell Melton. His father had started the firm in 1925 and it continues today as Upchurch, Bailey, and Upchurch, P.A. In 1961 Melton became a state circuit judge and later was appointed a federal judge, presently serving in senior status. Hamilton subsequently practiced with his brother Frank D. Upchurch, Jr., until Frank was appointed a judge for the Florida Fifth District Court of Appeals. As a lawyer, Hamilton served as an assistant state attorney and a member of the Board of Governors of The Florida Bar and was named a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. In 1967 he was elected to the St. Augustine City Commission and served until 1973, serving two years as mayor. He was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1978 and held that seat for 10 years, including eight years as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. After his first term, he was recognized by his colleagues in the legislature with the Alan Morris Award as most effective first-term legislator. Upon retirement from elected office, Hamilton continued to practice law. He was appointed to the Florida Commission on Ethics and also taught as an adjunct professor at both Flagler College and St. Johns River Community College. He also served on the Board of Trustees of SJRCC. Throughout his adult life, he was active in many civic organizations. He was instrumental in the founding of the Community Chest-United Fund, the forerunner to the United Way. He served in the Chamber of Commerce, on the governing board of Flagler Hospital, and as president of the St. Augustine Historical Society. He greatly enjoyed his over 50-year membership in the St. Augustine Rotary Club, serving as president and being named a Paul Harris Fellow. He pursued a number of business interests during his adult life, but particularly enjoyed his association as a founding director of St. Augustine Federal and later of Prosperity Bank. He was Chairman of the Board from Prosperity Bank's founding in 1984 until his death. He was baptized at Memorial Presbyterian Church and was a member for his entire life, serving in a number of capacities including Sunday school teacher, elder and trustee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan U. Wager, and son, Hamilton Davis Upchurch Jr. He is survived by his wife, Susan E. Upchurch; his son Tracy Wilson Upchurch and his wife, Beth; and his son Bryan W. Upchurch. He is also survived by his son-in-law Dr. Walter Wager and daughter-in-law Catherine A. Upchurch; his brother Frank D. Upchurch, Jr., and his wife, Tis; his eight grandchildren, Emily, Drew, David, Thomas, Spencer, William, Allison, and John Upchurch; and his nieces and nephews, Mignon "Dee" Beranek, Frank D. Vaughan, 73, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine. He was born on Friday, Feb. 15, 1935, in East LeRoy, Mich., to the late Dewey and Stella Vaughan. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Leland Vaughan. Duane graduated from Lakeview High School in Battle Creek, Mich., in 1953. Mr. Vaughan faithfully served his country proudly in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserves from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1963. He married Marlene Callender-Kramer on June 18, 1966, and then in 2001 they moved from Ceresco, Mich., to St. Augustine. Duane retired from Kraft General Foods after 28 years in 1993. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed sports and playing pool. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Marlene Vaughan, of St. Augustine; son, Robert Kevin Kramer, of Milford, Del.; daughters, Lisa Vaughan, and partner Laura Folk of St. Augustine, Cynthia Kramer, of Sebastian, Fla., and Diana Kramer, of Coldwater, Mich.; brother, Paul Vaughan, of East LeRoy; grandchildren, Derrick Kramer, Marissa Kramer and Robert Kevin Kramer Jr.; nephews and niece, Terry Vaughan, Rick Vaughan, Gary Vaughan and Debbie Finch. (St Augustine Record, 2/5/08) ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ VEASIE, Robert "Bob" Henry Robert "Bob" Henry Veasie, 81, Ponte Vedra Beach, died May 15, 2008, in Jacksonville. Mr. Veasie was a native of Clinton, Mass., and had resided in Ponte Vedra Beach for six years. He graduated from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1947 and became a career Naval Aviator. He retired in 1974 as lieutenant commander. He was also a flight simulator instructor for many years at the Kingsville, Texas Naval Air Station where his varied interests led him into all aspects of ranching and involvement. He became director of the farmers coop in Kingsville and retired to "the Ranch" in South Texas where he lived and enjoyed all aspects of the small community. Services: A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal Church of Ponte Vedra Beach. Officiating: The Rev. Rick Westbury. Vickers (nee Ryan), died at her residence on March 12, 2008, at the age of 86. She had just recently celebrated her 86th birthday on Feb. 14. She was born in Somerville, Mass., daughter of the late James J. Kerrigan and Mary Theresa Quigley Kerrigan. Her late grandparents James P. Quigley and Mary McCabe Quigley were from London, England. Barbara was a graduate of Somerville High School. She married in 1941 to Frederick A. Vickers. He passed away in 1994. She and her husband traveled the country together wherever her husband was stationed while serving in the U.S. Navy. They lived in San Francisco during World War II. Barbara was a bookkeeper for the IRS, the Navy, the Air Force, and later did mortgage underwriting for the government. She also worked for MIT and later for Flagler College. She was a member of the Cathedral Parish. Barbara loved all of her family dearly. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2008, at the Cathedral Basilica with Rev. Christopher Liguori, parochial vicar, officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Kotrady-Hudgins-Croyle Funeral Home, 209 S. He was born Oct. 1, 1921 on the family farm near Powhattan, Kan., the son of Ferd and Sophia Finck Volz. Al graduated from Powhattan High School and then served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a construction superintendent for Martin K. Eby and Commercial Builders of Kansas in the Wichita area for years. Al was a member on the Masonic Lodge and the Shriner's Club. On May 10, 1942 he married Lilly E. Williams. She preceded him in death on Sept. 29, 1998. Survivors include a son, Darrell and his wife, Jean Volz of St. Augustine; daughter, Janice and husband, Orland Eskola of Glacier, Wash.; three brothers, Lloyd Volz of Pratt, Kan., Clifford Volz of Horton, Kan., and Ferd Volz Jr., of Wichita, Kan.; two sisters, Loretta Yates of Wichita and Anna June Russell of Tucson, Ariz.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Earl, Leonard and Roy Volz. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kan., where the family will greet friends one hour prior to services.
