Webb passed quietly on to meet his Lord Jesus just after midnight on Dec. 26, 2007. Mr. Webb was 90 years old, soon to be 91 on Jan. 12, 2008. He lived a long, full life, and his release is well earned. He was born in Latonia, Ky., on Jan. 12, 1917, to Clara and Frank Webb. Raised an only child with many cousins, he graduated high school in Covington, Ky., in 1935. He then lived at the YMCA while working part time and attending college for three years. After his third year of college, he had an appendicitis attack, and surgery took the money he had saved for his senior year of college. Having survived the Great Depression, his mother was hesitant to lend him any money that she had saved, and Howard was unable to attend his senior year. He went to work on the Louisville & Nashville Railroad until drafted in the Army shortly after Pearl Harbor. He served as captain in the Army Corp of Engineers in the Philippines, building bridges and roads for the troops to travel on. He sat upon occasion with General MacArthur, discussing the construction of bridges and roads. He engineered one bridge which was said could not be built. After the successful completion of this bridge, it was named the "Webb Bridge." For his meritorious efforts, Howard was awarded the Bronze Star. Upon his return from WWII, he went back to work at the L&N and soon met Anna Evans, whom he fell in love with and married. He was transferred to Mobile, Ala., where baby girl, Mary Lee, was born. Soon the family returned to Louisville, Ky., where Howard's parents lived with them and Anna's nephew, William Robert Nantz. In 1963, Howard was approached by Mr. Winfred Thornton for a job on the Florida East Coast Railway as superintendent of Signals and Communications which he accepted, and the family moved to St. Augustine. He oversaw the installation of a new concrete tie system which contained the electrical system for signals on the railroad. This system updated the safety of the FEC significantly, and Mr. Webb was awarded several safety awards during his term in this position, which lasted through 1986. He found peace with his Lord at Trinity Chapel church before retiring. He visited Israel several times with the members of this church which further enhanced the peace he enjoyed in his Lord. He joined The Church on The Rock, which he attended for many years, handing out candy and chewing gum to all the children. He kept candy, chewing gum and potato chips in the trunk of his car which he would dispense to the neighborhood children when they would ring the bell in his carport. He attended Anastasia Baptist Church for a year before he fell and broke his hip. The broken hip made him unable to attend after that. A man known for "getting the job done," Mr. Webb had a kind side he showed to those he loved. He should be remembered as an honest man who loved God and was the best father a child could ever have. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lee Webb-Drake, and devoted son-in-law, Tommy Drake; grandson, Thomas Drake (a Marine stationed in Bahrain) and his wife, Tiffany Drake; great-grandson, Lucas Drake; niece, Beverly Ann Landrum and husband, John Landrum, of Charlotte, N.C.; nephew, William Robert Nantz and wife, Cindy Nantz, of Lexington, Ky.; and nephew, Marty Evans, and wife, Karen of North Palm Beach, Fla.; and several great nieces and nephews. Also surviving are a stepgrandson, Cody Gabhart; stepgranddaughter, Crystal Goss, and husband, Michael Goss; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Chance Goss. There is one cousin, Martha Jane James, Florence, Ky. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Anna Evans Webb; and parents, Frank and Clara Webb; a nephew, Thomas Payton Evans; and two sisters-in-law, Beverly Griffey and Betsy Lee Nantz. He was 71. A proud member of the Dartmouth class of 1958, Dr. Williamson went on to get his medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine in 1963. He then completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center; a residency in Neurology at Yale-New Haven Medical Center; three years of military service at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research doing basic neuro-physiology research; and finally returned to Yale as a junior faculty member. After living for more than 25 years in Greenwich, Conn., Dr. Williamson moved to Lyme in 1991. Working at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), he was able to expand his valuable work by creating the Dartmouth Hitchcock Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. The center has been designated by the National Institutes of Health as one of the nation's top epilepsy referral centers in the nation. The Epilepsy Center Dr. Williamson founded led to him being awarded the American Epilepsy Society's prestigious J. Kiffin Penry Award for Excellence in Epilepsy Care in 2002.
