Anita was the daughter of Armand and Irene Houle and was a native and longtime resident of Woonsocket, R.I. Anita had permanently resided in St. Augustine since 1977 after falling in love with St. Augustine while living here during the 1950s when she was a supportive U.S. Navy wife. Anita graduated from Holy Ghost Nursing College in Cambridge, Mass., and worked as a registered nurse for many years and particularly enjoyed her time spent as an ER nurse. Anita was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church. Anita loved to travel and held great memories of her month in Germany during Octoberfest while visiting several of her children while they or their spouse served in the U.S. Army and were stationed in various parts of Germany. She also held dear to her the month spent traveling with her daughter, Pam, when they traveled out west to see the Grand Canyon and other sites. Her most fond memories were likely the days when she would pack up the station wagon, load up the eight kids and oftentimes their friends and take a day trip to Boston, the beach, the zoo or the park. The St. Patrick's Day parade in South Boston was a given every year and was a guaranteed day out of school for the kids. More recently, Anita would fight her poor health to make it to the "condo" on Friday nights to spend an evening with the dear friends she met while briefly living there during renovations to her home. Many weekend days at the beach were followed by the boys heading to mom and dad's for an afternoon cookout with all of their friends. No matter how many would show up, mom always said there was room for one more. Holidays often meant taking in "orphans" whose families lived elsewhere. Anita spent many enjoyable days in her crafts room making puzzles which she would frame and give away to family and friends. She also did beautiful needlepoint and embroidery which she also took pleasure in giving away as gifts. Her most prized piece was a quilt with all 50 state flags embroidered which took her over a year to complete. It was so perfectly done that when she brought it to the quilt show she wasn't able to convince a number of the quilters it wasn't completed by machine. Anita was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Buran "Mac" McCutcheon, and siblings Louise, Eugene and Richard Houle. She is survived by daughters, Janice Shepard, her husband, Pete, and their daughters, April and Christy of Blackstone, Mass., and Pam McCutcheon of Boston; sons, Larry McCutcheon, his wife, Debbie, and children, Callie and Michael of Woonsocket, R.I., Chuck McCutcheon, his wife, Sandy, and sons, Callan and Blake of St. Augustine, Bruce McCutcheon, his wife, Robin, and children, Eric, Keri, and Keri's daughter, Kylie, of St. Augustine and Melissa Usina, her husband, Max, and their children, Katie and Brooke, Glen McCutcheon, his wife, Angi, and children, Colton and Madison of Hastings, Michael McCutcheon, his wife, Shelly, and children, Lonnie Stout and Sha` of St. Augustine, Ken McCutcheon and his wife, Meg, of St. Augustine. She is also survived by brothers, Armand Houle of Woonsocket, R.I., Roland Houle of N. Smithfield, R.I., Gerry Houle of Woonsocket, R.I. and George Houle of Wichita, Kan.; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. A funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at St. Anastasia Catholic Church with the Rev.
