| PRATT, Ethel Irene Ethel Irene Pratt, 84, St. Augustine, died July 14, 2008, at Flagler Hospital. She was born in Warwick, R.I., and resided in St. Augustine since 1982. She was a retired administrative assistant. She was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served during World War II. She was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the Marine Corps League Oldest City Detachment No. 383, the Women's Marine Association in Jacksonville and the American Legion. She was a member of Turning Point at Calvary. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 21 at Turning Point at Calvary, 3500 State Road 16 with the Rev. Gregg Fischer officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. She is survived by a daughter, Dale Susan Kajkowski, Kissimmee, Fla. (St Augustine Record, 07/17/08) _______________________________________________________________________________________________ PRUITT, Billie Billie Pruitt, 85, of St. Augustine passed away Jan. 20, 2008 at her daughter's home in Alpharetta, Ga. Mrs. Pruitt was born on March 30, 1922, in Gadsden, Ala., and arrived in St. Augustine at the Florida East Coast train station with her husband in 1950. They de-trained on the "marsh" side of the tracks at low tide, (as opposed to the city side). Mrs. Pruitt took one look, and began getting back on the train. It took a lot of talking by her husband to get off the train the second time. Mrs. Pruitt was past president of the following organizations: Woman's Exchange of St. Augustine, Rosalie James Circle of the International Order of the King's Daughters and Sons, Camellia Garden Circle; and a former treasurer of Trinity Episcopal Parish. She also served on the international Board of the King's Daughters and Sons. She was a recipient of the city of St. Augustine's de Aviles Award in 2001 and of First Coast News Twelve Who Care in 2004. Mrs. Pruitt also served in the Pilot Club of St. Augustine, St. Augustine Art Association, the Sister Cities Association, Big Brothers and Big Sisters and St. Augustine Historical Society and had been on the St. Johns County Library Advisory Board. Mrs. Pruitt is survived by her husband, William H. "Bill" Pruitt; daughter, Dinah F. Joyce of Alpharetta, Ga.; two grandsons, Edwin A. "Tripp" Joyce III and his wife, Kristi of Spartanburg, S.C. and William Christopher Joyce and his wife, Alysia of Lancaster, S.C.; five great-grandchildren, Taylor Anne Joyce, Edwin A. Drew Joyce IV, William Stiles Joyce, William Keelin Joyce, and Wyatt James Joyce. Raby, 31, of St. Augustine, formerly of Palatka, died suddenly at home on Thursday, May 29, 2008. In 1999 he graduated with honors from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. Andrew was a born-again Christian and a member of Christ Independent Methodist Church in Palatka. Ransom, Jr., 77, of St. Augustine, passed away Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007. He was born Nov. 16, 1929, in Atlanta, Ga., and was the son of the late Robert G. Ransom Sr., and Ida Watts Ransom. After graduating from Andrew Jackson High School in 1948, Robert joined the National Guard and served during the Korean War before retiring. Robert was a real estate broker with Watson Realty for 28 years and served as vice president before retiring to spend time with his wife and family. He was the former President of Multiple Listing Service and Northeast Florida Association of Realtors and was a former Realtor of the year. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Jo Ann (Mickey) Ransom of St. Augustine; son, Robert G. Ransom, III and his wife Lora of Jacksonville; daughter, Laura L. (St Augustine Record, 8/28/07) __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ RAULERSON, Duke Arnold Sr. Duke Arnold Raulerson Sr., 77, passed away early Sunday morning, April 6, 2008, at his residence following a sudden illness. Born in Sumter County, Ga., he moved with his family to Pierce County at the age of 2. Mr. Raulerson graduated from Blackshear High School in 1947 and attended Georgia-Alabama Business School of Commerce and Mercer University in Macon. He went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955, the highlight being the time he served at Hallman Air Force Base, N.M., with Col. John Paul Stapp and the high-speed sled at the beginning of the space program. After discharge, he managed the Royal Theater for a year and then worked as a sales representative for Southern Propane Gas for four years. In January of 1960 he opened a hardware store in Blackshear that proved to be his lifelong profession of 40 years. In 1986 he moved his Raulerson Ace Home Center to Highway 84 and sold it in January of 2000. During this time he served on many boards and committees related to the business. Mr. Raulerson was also the owner of Raulerson Construction Co. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Blackshear where he was a deacon and had served in many positions including chairing two building programs. He was a retired director of The Peoples Bank of Blackshear, was a member of the American Legion, the Elks Lodge and other groups. Mr. Raulerson was preceded in death by his parents, Randall Dewey Raulerson and Ella Young Raulerson; a brother, Billy N. Raulerson; and a granddaughter, Beth Ann Raulerson. Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Inez Bryant Raulerson of Blackshear; two daughters, Kim R. Silman and Kay R. Carter both of Blackshear; a son, Duke A. Raulerson Jr. of Blackshear; his father-in-law, J. E. Bryant of Blackshear; five grandchildren, Guy Reddick Jr. and Ben Reddick both of Atlanta and Hank Silman, Shea Phillips and J.E.B. She was born in Jacksonville and grew up in St. Augustine. She had been a resident of Hastings for the past 34 years, coming from St. Augustine. She was a 1957 graduate of the Ketterlinus High School in St. Augustine and was also a graduate of the Jones Business College in Jacksonville. Mrs. Reid worked for the State of Florida for many years. She managed the Trinity Chapel Day Care Center in St. Augustine for six years and then worked at the Farmer's Supply Co. in Hastings for 14 years. She enjoyed crocheting and fishing and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Reid is survived by her husband of 34 years, Dow D. Reid, Jr. of Hastings; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Cheryl Bailey of Palm Coast, and Tony and Melissa Bailey of Lake City; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Jill and David Carpenter of St. Augustine; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Buddy and Tedra Reid, and Stephen and Joann Reid, all of Hastings; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Thelma and Donnie Ford of St. Augustine, and Shirley and Henry Thomas of Lake Butler; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He worked for St. Augustine Sightseeing Trains as a mechanic for many years and had been an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. After years of vacationing in the mountains of western North Carolina, he and his wife retired and relocated to Franklin, N.C. in 2003. Mr. Rice was a native of St. Augustine, born Feb. 22, 1936. He played tennis and won the Florida state boy's championship in his age group in 1948 and 1949. He attended Ketterlinus High School in St. Augustine and was a member of Ketterlinus High School state championship baseball team in 1954. He graduated with the Ketterlinus High Class of '54 and was a graduated from Duke University with a bachelor of arts degree in 1958 and a law degree from Duke University School of Law in 1961. He served his country as a captain in the U.S. Army JAG Corps and served also in the U.S. Army Reserves. He had been a practicing attorney in the Jacksonville and St. Augustine areas for more than 40 years. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marian; his children, Laurie and Michael; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Rose Rice. He was of the Catholic Faith, a member of Corpus Christi Parish. Mr. Richardson was born on May 14, 1918, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Edgar J. and Alice Richardson. He served with the Cavalry of the U.S. Army during World War II. He later lived in Sheridan, Wyo., Ann Arbor, Mich., and Waukesha, Wis., while enjoying a 43-year career with the Veterans Administration as a financial manager. Richardson retired to St. Augustine in 1991. Richardson was a member of the D.A.V. and the American Legion of Wisconsin. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed both hunting and fishing. She graduated Benton Harbor High School in 1973 and married James Roberts on Dec. 13, 1980. Together they raised three children, Jacob, Sara and Rebecca. On Feb. 7, 2007, Carol celebrated the birth of her first grandchild, Amaris. In Michigan, Carol enjoyed cross-country skiing, horseback riding and walking the beaches of Lake Michigan. Since moving to St. Augustine in 1997, Carol continued to enjoy walks on the beach, gardening and bicycling. She also took satisfaction in her work as a secretary in the Human Resource Department of St. Johns County Schools. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family and friends, enjoying life and appreciating the joys of life's simple pleasures. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church and was a former member of Benton Harbor Good Shepard Evangelical Lutheran Church. Carol was most proud of her family, her home and her church. During her youth she worked as an executive secretary, but once she got married to her husband, Santiago Rosado-Rosas, she became a homemaker. She was married to Santiago for 33 years until he died in 1992. After God, Juanita's passion in life was her family, for which no sacrifice was spared. She was involved in many different organizations of the Catholic Church: The Legion of Mary, The Cursillos Movement, and The Daughters of Mary. She was instrumental in the building of San Salvador Church in Mayaguez, San Judas Tadeo Chapel in Hormigueros, Puerto Rico, and San Jose Nursing Home in Hormigueros, Puerto Rico. He graduated from St. Augustine High School and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, N.Y. earning a bachelor of science degree and mate's license and becoming a U.S. Navy Reserve Commissioner. He worked for many years in the wholesale food business in Northeast Florida. B.J. was a Floridian by adoption and temperament. St. Augustine and the beaches provided him with a strong sense of place. The surf gave him strength, serenity and renewal. (St Augustine Record, 06/12/08) ________________________________________________________________________________ ROSENBLATT, Jonathan Judah Jonathan Judah Rosenblatt, 88, of St. Augustine, Florida passed away peacefully at his residence on April 27, 2008. Jonathan was born in New York City on Dec. 31, 1919, to Bernard and Gertrude Rosenblatt. As a young boy, he lived in Haifa, Israel, with his family. He served in the U.S. Air Corps during World War II and later attended Cornell University. He moved to Stuart, Fla., in 1967. Mr. Rosenblatt had a long career with the United States government as an in-flight inspector, retiring from Northrop Grumman. Jonathan was an avid reader and a lover of classical music. He will be lovingly remembered for his keen sense of humor and kindness toward people and animals. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Pearl-Rosenblatt; son, Daniel Rosenblatt of Winston-Salem, N.C.; step daughter, Shelley Pearl of Chicago, Ill.; sister-in-law, Carol Rosenblatt; nephews, Lionel, Josiah, and Nathaniel; nieces, Sarah Jackson and Catherine Wallace; cousin Frank Goodman. He is preceded in death by his parents, his former wife, Dorothy Eaton Rosenblatt who passed away in 1994, and his beloved brother, David. Va., and had resided in St. Augustine since 1989. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received a bronze star and two purple hearts. He was president emeritus of the EMMA Concert Association, former member of the Health and Human Services Advisory Council, former member of the Post Office Advisory Committee. He was a member of Christ Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, past president of the church council, elder and adult bible study teacher. He was a graduate of West Virginia Tech, received his master's degree from Marshall University and his doctorate in education from the University of Tennessee. He co-authored a book entitled Strategies for School Improvements. Also during his tenure at the University of Delaware, Dr. Ross and two fellow professors developed an innovative doctorate program in educational leadership. Caz was born, lived and worked in northern New Jersey until he was 49 years. He taught high school mathematics and driver's education and coached boys' basketball at Hackensack H.S., before retiring in 1991 with his wife Carol to St. Augustine. Rowland, a long time resident of St. Augustine, passed away Feb. 10, 2008, at Flagler Hospital. Rowland was an executive secretary. Howard W. Rowlett, 81, passed away at his residence on March 3, 2008. Mr. Rowlett was born on Oct. 12, 1926, to Wilie and Pearl Rowlett in Monroe, Mich. He served in the United States Air Force in Japan during World War II. He has lived in St. Augustine since 1956. Mr. Rowlett retired as a district manager for Florida Power & Light after 36 years of service. He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church.
