| GADSON, Christine Christine Gadson, 85, of St. Augustine, died March 31, 2008, at Ponce de Leon Care Center Mrs. Gadson was a native of Aiken, S.C., and had resided in St. Augustine since early adult years. "Sonny" Gager Jr. passed away suddenly on April 6, 2008, at Flagler Hospital. Mr. Gager was born to Lawrence and Vermiel Gager in Pascagoula, Miss., where he lived until joining the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, Sonny met and married his wife Linda. They moved to Jacksonville in 1960 where he founded Gager Industry of Jacksonville formerly named B & S Plastics. In 1980, he relocated to St. Augustine. Mr. Gager was a member of San Sebastian Catholic Church. He was also past commodore of both the WRRC and Amateur Radio Club and the St. Augustine Yacht Club. Sonny was an adventurous and fun-loving man with many interests including building aircrafts and motorcycles, racing motorcycles and sailboats. He will be fondly remembered as a strong, thoughtful and caring man with a welcoming smile. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda; son, George "Bernie" (Sandi) Gager of Switzerland, Fl; two brothers, Leland (Vivian) Gager of Goutier, Miss., Forest (Sandra) Gager of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandchildren, Sarah and Dylan Gager; and many nieces and nephews. A gathering will be held from 10-11 a.m. with a Memorial Mass beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at San Sebastian Catholic Church with The Rev. Thomas Walsh, officiating. She was 33 years old. Tammy was a happy and loving mother to her two sons. She had a wonderful smile that would light up a room and a heart full of love. Her family will miss her enthusiastic hugs and bright laughter and will cherish her memory forever. Tammy is survived by her sons, Zachary P. Bozeman, Jacob C. Gallawa; her husband, Kelly Gallawa; her mother, Cheryl Lynn Jones, and step-father, Larry; father, Brian Barnes, and step-mother, Ann; sisters, Alison Barnes, Betsy Barnes; brothers, Danny Barnes; aunt, Dawne Barnes Hayward; her grandmothers, Peggy Blondheim and Martha Crane; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends. (St Augustine Record, 07/01/08) ______________________________________________________________________________________________ GALVIN, Jill Jill Galvin, 66, of Bradenton, Fla., passed away Feb. 20, 2008, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born Jan. 9, 1942, in Portland, Maine, the daughter of Edwin and Edith Inness. Jill graduated from South Portland High School in 1960 and then served her country as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed in North Carolina and Virginia. Following her military service, Jill graduated from Salve Regina College in Rhode Island, pursuing a career in education and taught in the South Portland School District. Jill then continued her education by attending Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill., studying toward a master's degree in psychology. She spent most of her life in Maine, Rhode Island, North Carolina and the Sarasota/Bradenton area of Florida. A memorial service will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in South Portland, Maine, at a later date. Survivors include her loving life companion, Ernest Foelsch, and extended family; her son, James Cagney, and his wife, Lisa, of Portland, Maine, and their two children; a daughter, Cynthia Zust, and her husband, Kevin, of Rochester, N.H., and their children. Other survivors include her sister and best friend, Jan Wesselman, and her husband, Robert, of St. Augustine; brothers, Edwin Inness and his wife, Zenna, of Rangely, Maine, and John Inness and his wife, Janet, of Topsham, Maine; and many nieces and nephews. Garcia, was born Oct. 6, 1947, to the late Roberto Garcia-Beltran and Amelia Andrade Garcia. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosemary Velasco-Garcia. He entered into eternal rest from lung cancer on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 5 p.m. after receiving the Sacrament of the Sick at his sister's, Ines Russ' home. Zeke and his brother, Adrian are Vietnam veterans who served their military service from 1968 to 1970. He became an accountant and credit union examiner after serving two years in the U.S. Army. He was known by his friends as Zeke but his family knew him as Kilo. He is survived by his three sisters, Francisca Geisler of Salinas, Calif., Esperanza Turner of Jacksonville, N.C., Ines Russ and his brother, Adrian Garcia, both of St. Augustine; brothers-in-law, Robert Geisler, Jeptha Turner and Daniel Russ; sister-in-law, Leonor Cadima-Garcia; several nieces, nephews and a grandnephew. When he moved to St. Augustine, Zeke started to work for Tour Saint Augustine as a bilingual tour guide. He loved his job and truly enjoyed teaching school children the history of the oldest city in the USA. Prior to moving to Florida, she was the former owner of Saggios Restaurant and the Liberty Grill in New Haven, Conn. Elizabeth moved to Titusville in 1993 from Ocala. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Giovanni Giannotta; her son, Ralph; and two sons who died in infancy. Elizabeth is survived by sons; Arnold (Judie) Giannotta, of Italy, and Sergio (Joane) Giannotta of Mims; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Giannotta, St. Augustine; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brothers; Vincenzo and Donato; and sisters, Maria, Giuseppina and Giannina. George was born in Jacksonville on July 18, 1957. He graduated from Fernandina Beach High School and attended Florida Technical University and University of North Florida. He was a member of Florida Yacht Club, Friars, U.S. Sailing Association, and the Snipe Class International Racing Association. His passion was sailboat racing and he participated in the America's Cup and was invited to coach an Olympic Sailing Team. He worked most of his life in the marine industry. George is survived by his mother, Catherine Thompson Simmons; his father, George Williams Gibbs III (Ann); his sisters, Catherine Gibbs Juan (Peter) and Ann Gibbs Giampetro, and Elizabeth Stockton Gibbs; and his brothers, Robert Kingsley Gibbs (Melinda), Raymond Douglas Simmons (Terry), and Francis Boll Gibbs (LeAnne). His nieces and nephews include Celeste Dodrill, Tucker Juan, Anna Giampetro, Cullen Giampetro, Robert Gibbs Jr. and John Dodrill. George will be interred at his family's section of Evergreen Cemetery in St. Augustine along with his grandfather, George Williams Gibbs Jr. and his greatgrandparents, Kathleen Ingraham Gibbs and George Williams Gibbs, and his greatgreat- grandparents, Margaret Watkins Gibbs and George Williams Gibbs, and Maria Baker Ingraham and James Edmundson Ingraham, and his great-great-grandparents, Julia Williams Gibbs and George Couper Gibbs, and Elizabeth Coles Watkins and William Joel Watkins. Gilbert was a native of Lafayette, Ind., and a longtime resident of Leesburg, Fla. He lived in St. Augustine for the past two years. (St Augustine Record, 2/18/08) ______________________________________________________________________ GILMORE, Herbert Starling Herbert Starling Gilmore, GMCG USN (Ret) died December 14, 2007. A native of Macon, Georgia, he was the son of Starling C. Gilmore and Pearl Phillips Gilmore, both deceased. Mr. Gilmore joined the Navy in 1944 and served during WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He received the Commendation Medal with Battle Device for meritorious service aboard the USS Thompson, DMS 38 in Korea. He retired from the Navy after 22 years of service. Herbert then worked for the US Postal service for 20 years. After retiring in 1986, he moved to St. Augustine from Nashville, Tenn. Mr. Gilmore was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he served in numerous capacities. He was a Scottish Rite, 32degree Mason and a member of the Fleet Reserve. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vera W. Gilmore, his sister, Mary Elizabeth Simpson of Bullard, Ga., his twin brother Hubert R. Gilmore of St. Augustine and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church on Monday, December 17, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Doug Clewis officiating. The family will greet friends before the service. (St Augustine Record, 12/16/07) ______________________________________________________________________ GINN, John A "Art" John A "Art" Ginn, 89, of Palatka died Friday December 7, 2007 at Putnam Community Medical Center. He was a second generation native and lifelong resident of Palatka and Summer Haven. He was a US Navy veteran of World WarII and a member of St James United Methodist Church. Art began his career with New York Life Insurance Co in 1938 after graduating from Florida Southern College. In 1981, he was the top agent with New York Life Insurance Co. A Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (CHFC), Art was also a member of the New York Life Chairman's Council and a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table. In 1974, he served as State President for the Florida Underwriters Association and was awarded the G C Snead award for outstanding service to the Life Underswriters Association of Florida. He was a member of the Palatka Kiwanis Club and a past President of the Palatka Jaycees, where he received the Jaycees' Man of the Year award. Art was also a member of the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce and served as chairman of the Committee of 100. He has been recognized in Who's Who in American Business. Art and his wife, Lou, developed the Round Lake Park subdivision in Palatka as well as the Glen Eagle Park subdivision in Hollister. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish and was active in Quail Unlimited. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Arthur Ginn and Violet Merwin Ginn and Henry Ginn; and two sisters, Virginia Phillips and Marie Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lou Cone Ginn of Palatka; one son, Jay Ginn and wife Linda of St Augustine; one daughter, Judy Ginn and husband, Hunt Bowman of St Augustine and seven grandchildren, Bethany Waldrop, Ron Ginn, Jayce Ginn, Beau Ginn and Chelsye Ginn, all of St Augustine, Stewart Bowman of Boston, MA and Trevor Bowman of Providence, RI. Mr. Ginn was a native of St. Augustine and had resided in Fort Lauderdale over 35 years. He was a graduate of the Richard Jerome Murray High School class of 1967 and attended Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach. He had worked for Sears Roebuck & Company for 36 years in sales and management, retiring in December 2005. He also worked with South Florida Sun-Sentinel until his illness. Kendell Wayne Goodall, 43, died peacefully on July 10, 2008, surrounded by his family after a two-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. "Kenny" was born in Del Norte, Colo., on May 19, 1965, to Stanley and Wanda Goodall. His parents moved to Florida when he was 1 month old. He attended St. Johns County schools and graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1983. Later, he earned an associate's degree in computer electronics. He began working during high school in the construction industry. Working as a welder and because of his excellent craftsmanship and work ethic, he earned the respect of many in the construction industry. He developed his own business, GoodNews Custom Welding Inc., in 2003. Kenny was a sports fan and played football for Pop Warner and St. Augustine High. He was best known for the Florida orange and blue running through his veins and his closet. He attended, watched or listened to every Gator football game. He was a lifelong member of Mill Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He especially enjoyed working with children. He served as bus captain on a bus route and also as a counselor in the Junior Church. On Feb. 10, 1990, he married Karen Nester, of St. Augustine, at her home church, Calvary Baptist Church. In the course of 18 wonderful years, Kenny and Karen had six children. He was a dedicated husband and father, a good provider, a faithful friend, and a loving son and brother. In every area of his life, he gave his all. He is survived by his wife; his children, Kollin, 14, Kaley, 13, Konner, 8, Kaleb, 6, Kolton, 3, and Kendyl, 19 months; his parents; his maternal grandparents, Malcolm and Marjorie Turner, of Canon City, Colo.; his two brothers, Keith and Kamron, both of St. Augustine; his sister, Kellie Wemmie, of Chickamauga, Ga.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Goyenechea, died on Feb. 12, 2008, at her home after a long battle with cancer. Born in Las Tunas, Cuba, on April 28, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Pastor Machado Montes de Oca. During her childhood, she was educated in Catholic schools and later obtained her college degree in home economics. While in college, she met her husband, Dr. Jose Goyenechea, to whom she was married for 61 years. In addition to teaching school in Cuba, she was actively involved in her community, serving as president of the Wives Society of the Medical Society, president of the Cuban Cancer Society, secretary of the League Against Blindness and president of the Ladies of the Lions Club. In 1964, Mrs. Goyenechea left her Communist homeland with her husband and daughters seeking the freedoms offered in the United States. In 1971, she and her family moved to Lake City, which became her new home, and where she continued to reside until her death. Mrs. Goyenechea was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, former member of St. Ann's Guild and a member of the Lake City Garden Club, Azalea Circle. Mrs. Goyenechea collected bells and had more than 1,300 bells in her collection from her travels all over the world. Mrs. Goyenechea is survived by her husband, Dr. Jose Goyenechea; three daughters, Ana Maria Tepedino (Jose F.) of Lake City, Dr. Tessy Dieguez (Eduardo), St. Augustine, and Circuit Judge Leandra Johnson (Richard) of Lake City. She leaves six grandchildren, of whom she was very proud, Jose Gustavo Tepedino, Dr. Miguel Tepedino, Josephine and Tessly Ann Dieguez, and Jess and Bryson Johnson. She is also survived by one niece in Miami and three in Kansas and New Jersey. She was 87 years of age. Rosalind was born in 1920 on a farm in Wadesboro, N.C., and was the last surviving member of a family of seven brothers and sisters. She became deaf very early in life, as did three of her siblings. Rosalind graduated in 1941 from Gallaudet College in Washington, D.C., and began her teaching career that year at the Columbus, Ohio School for the Deaf. She married a fellow deaf teacher and Gallaudet alumnus, Robert Greenmun of Binghamton, N.Y., the following year in Columbus. Rosalind and Robert moved from Ohio in 1949 to accept teaching assignments in Rome, N.Y. In 1954, they relocated to the Florida State School for the Deaf and the Blind in St. Augustine. Robert was secretary-treasurer of the National Association of the Deaf for many years. He and Rosalind traveled widely in connection with his NAD duties, and both were well known among the deaf community throughout the United States. Robert was also active in early experimental work supporting naval aviation research and the NASA space program. He died in 1970, victim of a car-train collision at the FEC crossing on S.R. 207 after watching the launch of Apollo 13 from the front yard of the Greenmun's home nearby. Rosalind continued teaching in St. Augustine until retiring in 1981 from her final FSDB position as associate director of Student Life, completing 37 years of teaching and counselling deaf students. She is survived by her son, Jim Greenmun and daughter-in-law, Judy; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Jim and his wife, the former Judy Pamies of St. Augustine, now live in Katy, Texas near Houston. Rosalind remained a country girl at heart throughout her full and wonderful life until taken away by Alzheimer's. She outlived many of her relatives and friends. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and moved to St. Augustine in 1990. He was a business executive with General Electric for more than 30 years and a member of the Virginia State Bar Association. Griffey, a long-time respected St. Augustine resident and businessman died at Flagler Hospital after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was 74 years old. John was born to John and Marie Griffey in Helene, Ark., in 1933. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Europe. He married his devoted wife Edna almost 51 years ago and they moved to St. Augustine 45 years ago, where John became the owner and operator of Ronnie's Amoco Service Station on State Road 16. John was an avid golfer and played whenever he could. The only thing he seemed to enjoy more than golf was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They brought great joy into his life, as all his family did. His memory will forever live in their hearts as well. Survivors include his loving wife, Edna Merle Griffey; his children, John M. (Jean) Griffey of New Hartford, Conn.; Charles J. (Brenda) Griffey of St. Augustine; Linda D. (Terry) Mickler of St. Augustine; seven grandchildren, Tiffany (Shannon) Zanzarella, Jason B. She had resided for the past nine years in Thomasville, Ga. After graduating from P.K. Yonge High School in Gainesville and the University of California at Santa Barbara, she worked with the King of Nepal's biological survey, Nevada State Parks and the California Nature Conservancy. She is survived by her parents, Hellen and Don Guttinger of St. Augustine; brothers Walt (Victoria) of St. Augustine and Greg (Robin) of Cumming, Ga.; her full-time caregiver of eight years, Briton Bass; and nephews Ian and Weston Guttinger. Viewing will be at Culley's Meadow Wood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Sunday; Funeral services will be at Advent Episcopal Church, 815 Piedmont Drive in Tallahassee at 10 a.m. on Monday, followed by burial in Roselawn Cemetery in Tallahassee. Since her diagnosis, she has served as a Hospice volunteer, mentored young people and been an inspiration to all who have known her.
